On 7 December 2022, ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ will host ¡°Cutting Through the Noise: How the UN is Building Trust in an Age of Disinformation¡±, a conversation with Melissa Fleming, UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications. This event will start at 18:30 in the 1F Annex Space at ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Headquarters in Tokyo.

Solutions to our planet¡¯s pressing challenges increasingly compete in a mediascape where facts can be quickly outpaced by disinformation and conspiracy theories. The same 24-hour news cycles and perpetual social media feeds that present immense opportunities to educate society, also threaten efforts to communicate how we can overcome the most critical issues of our time.

How is the United Nations ¡ª the largest intergovernmental organisation in the world ¡ª communicating its vast data on global challenges in ways that build trust, combat misinformation, and compel disparate social groups to act?

Melissa Fleming will join ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Head of Communications Kiki Bowman for a conversation exploring how the United Nations is reshaping its communications strategy, particularly in response to new media trends, current global crises, and lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ Conversation Series aims to foster audience participation; you are encouraged to engage with the speakers during the conversation and at the reception that will follow, where all audience members are invited to enjoy hors d¡¯oeuvres and drinks while exchanging ideas and making new contacts.

Please note that this event will be in English. Advance registration (by 6 December, 15:00 JST) is required. Please click on the?REGISTER button above to access the online registration page.
